SFPD Make Arrest in 2011 Homicide

On Thursday, January 9th, the San Francisco Homicide Unit made an arrest from a homicide that occurred at a night club on the 500 block of Howard Street that occurred three years ago to the day. Arrested for the homicide was 36 year old Dung Minh Nguyen. Nguyen is a resident of Richmond, California. The arrest was made pursuant to an arrest warrant. Nguyen was booked on the following charges: voluntary manslaughter, assault with a deadly weapon, battery causing serious bodily injury and battery.

The victim in this case, Joe Hernandez was 30 years old, 4th year UCSF medical student at the time of his death. Mr. Hernandez had volunteered as a disaster relief worker after Hurricane Katrina, had learned Spanish so he could work with refugees in Guadalajara Mexico and as a teenager, worked as an unpaid hospital volunteer.
