The San Francisco Police Department is investigating two separate fatal collisions between motorists and bicyclists in the City overnight. The first incident occurred on June 22nd at approximately 6:01 PM on John F. Kennedy Drive and 30th Avenue. Witnesses reported that a white Honda traveling westbound on JFK Drive at a high rate of speed crossed into the opposing lane of traffic and struck a bicyclist pedaling eastbound. The bicyclist, a 41 year-old female San Francisco resident, died at the scene. The suspect fled the scene in the vehicle which was found parked and abandoned a short time later at the Angler’s Casting Club in Golden Gate Park. The car had been reported stolen and the suspect driver is still outstanding.
The second collision occurred on June 22nd at approximately 8:24 PM when a BMW traveling westbound on Howard Street apparently ran a red light at 7th Street. The vehicle struck a bicyclist who was traveling northbound on 7th Street. The victim, a 26 year-old female resident of San Francisco was transported to the hospital but later died. The suspect continued westbound to the area of Howard and 9th Street where he stopped and exited his car. The car then rolled and struck an unoccupied vehicle parked on Howard Street. A witness spoke with the driver until police arrived at the scene and took him into custody. Farrukh Mushtaq, a 32 year-old male San Francisco resident was later booked into San Francisco County Jail on the charges of: felony hit and run and vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence. Impairment does not appear to be a factor in this case. Mushtaq’s booking photo accompanies this press release.
