San Francisco Police Arrest Suspect in Burglary Series 20-084
On Tuesday, July 27, 2020, at approximately 12:00 p.m., a San Francisco city employee went to Richmond Station to notify officers that he located several laptop computers in the area of 40th Avenue and Balboa Street. San Francisco Police officers initiated an investigation into the incident. The officers determined that the laptops were taken from a nearby school located on the 3800 block of Balboa Street. Officers responded to the school and found signs of forced entry. A school representative responded to the scene and met with officers. Upon conducting a walkthrough of the school, the representative informed officers that there were several more computers missing. Officers contacted investigators from the SFPD Burglary Unit, who took over the investigation.
While reviewing crime alert bulletins, a patrol officer assigned to Southern Police Station noticed that a suspect who had been arrested on an out-of-county warrant resembled the suspect depicted in an SFPD Burglary Detail crime alert. He notified the Burglary investigator, who pursued this lead.
Through the course of an investigation, the SFPD Burglary Detail investigator identified 23-year-old Justin Raab of San Francisco as the suspect in a series of burglaries in the Richmond and Taraval Districts. SFPD obtained warrants for Raab’s arrest; for the charges of burglary and grand theft.
Raab, who was in custody in San Mateo County on an unrelated matter, was arrested on these warrants and is awaiting transfer to the San Francisco County Jail. In addition to the July 27 school burglary, investigators developed probable cause to arrest Raab for four other burglaries:
- July 4, 2020 burglary of a school on the 2100 block of Clement Avenue in which U.S. currency was stolen.
- July 19, 2020 burglary of a school on the 3100 block of Moraga street in which a computer and multiple tablets were stolen.
- July 21, 2020 burglary of a restaurant on the 4400 block of Balboa Street in which a cash register, U.S. currency and computer tablet were stolen.
- July 21, 2020 burglary of a retail stone on the 3100 block of Noriega Street in which a cash register and U.S. currency were stolen.
While an arrest has been made, these incidents remain open and active investigations. Anyone with information is asked to call the SFPD 24 Hour Tip Line at 1-415-575-4444 or Text a Tip to TIP411 and begin your text message with SFPD. You may remain anonymous.
