Chinatown Night Out 2016

In 2014, Chinatown Night Out, modeled after National Night Out, was established in an effort to reach the monolingual speaking Chinese Community. The San Francisco Police Department’s goal is to build trust and long lasting partnerships between the community and the police. When relationships are formed and trust is established, the community feels comfortable to report crime.

SFPD’s plan is to educate the community this year on the importance of crime prevention as it relates to robberies, burglaries, blessing scams, cell phone theft, residential "tailgating", security cameras and personal safety. We will also communicate our message on Vision Zero and stress the importance of pedestrian safety.

Among those attending are police officers, including an Academy class and members of Central Station,  Chief Chaplin and the SFPD Command Staff, Police Commissioners, Supervisors, Mayor Lee and other City officials, dignitaries, the District Attorney and community leaders.  All will be on hand to meet and greet the community. Community members will be able to interact with their beat officers and the Ping Yuen Housing Team.

This year's event is coordinated by SFPD Central Station, the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Supervisor Peskin's Office, the Chinatown Community Development Center, Self Help for the Elderly, the Chinatown YMCA, Cameron House and SF Safe.

There will be numerous community and nonprofit groups on hand to provide information to the community. We are grateful for the generous donations which makes this year's event possible!
