8th Anniversary of the Murder of Officer Bryan Tuvera

Monday, December 22nd, marks the eighth anniversary of the fatal shooting of San Francisco Police Officer Bryan Tuvera. Officer Tuvera was shot on the night of December 22, 2006 by a suspect wanted on a felony warrant. When the suspect attempted to flee, the officers initiated a foot pursuit. The suspect broke into the side door of a residence and went into the garage. When officers moved in to take the suspect into custody, he opened fire, striking Officer Tuvera. A second officer returned fire and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

Despite valiant efforts by San Francisco Firefighters and Paramedics and the Staff at San Francisco General Hospital, Officer Tuvera succumbed to his injuries early on the morning of December 23rd. Officer Tuvera entered the Department on July 1, 2002. He was 28 years old.

The San Francisco Police Department will honor and pay tribute to Officer Tuvera. Members of the public wishing to remember Officer Tuvera may visit the Community Room dedicated to him at Taraval Police Station, located at 2345- 24th Avenue on Monday, December 22nd. The Community Room will be open from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. A memorial garden at Mc Coppin Square Park (directly across the street from Taraval Station) was dedicated in Officer Tuvera’s honor on November 19, 2012. The park contains a plaque dedicated to Officer Tuvera. The public may visit the garden year round during regular park hours.
